Lubrication is Key: Always use cutting oil or a light lubricant to prevent the teeth from snapping and to ensure smooth threads. The "Half-Turn" Rule: When cutting, turn the tool forward half a turn, then back a quarter turn. This breaks the metal "chips" so they don't clog the tool. Material: Since these are carbon steel, they are excellent for cleaning existing rusty threads or cutting threads in softer metals (aluminum, brass, mild steel), but may struggle with high-strength stainless steel.
